While most keyboards have a basic squared off design, Mad Catz decided to jazz things up with an angular asymmetrical design. The plastic chassis of each has a glossy finish, in contrast with the dull finish on the keys. The keyboard comes in three colors: Black, Red, and (like our review unit) White. While the underlying mechanics of the switch are still just like any other silicone dome switch, the key mechanism has been designed to provide a better overall experience, with better tactile feedback, providing something more akin to a mechanical switch. 3 uses a variation on silicone dome switches called P.U.L.S.E. 3, continues the tradition of flashy designs, but backs it up with some intriguing features and competent performance. While gamers often pick their gear based on a combination of feature set, comfortable feel, and personal flair, Mad Catz has long placed emphasis on the latter.
